On a national level, the public education system in the United States of America is faling or in severe crisis. Many people believe it has been on a downward spiral since the Bush era legislation No Child Left Behind became law. Local communities largely support their area schools despite the seeming failures uncovered by NCLB, with it’s strings attached funding for public education and standards that cannot be reached by all students. There truly are differences in the ways that students learn, for example, and some are more intellectually gifted than others, or come from socio economic backgrounds that promote learning, while other students do not have those advantages — and no amount of standard setting or attempted enforcement thereof can change that.
A new infographic by Online Universities addresses the issues facing American schools right now. Here, you will notice that certain problems facing the education system could easily be remedied by returning the vast amount of control back to the local school districts. Without a major overhaul, American schools will continue to decline and there will be little hope of bringing our standards up to those of other countries who now outperform American schools.
